Our Values
We believe that every man, woman and child has the right to education. Education is often seen as a privilege. It is not. It is one of many human rights that poor people are denied every day. We work to help poor people claim their right to education by:
- campaigning for free, compulsory and quality education
- educating parents on the importance of education
- encouraging community involvement in education
- campaigning for equal education opportunities for boys and girls
- involving communities in education decision-making and enhancing of parent teacher relations
- mobilising local groups to campaign against negative culture practices that hinder children from getting an education
Our Vision
Our vision is to provide a learning environment that is stimulating and challenging for children who do not have the financial means to access education. Enabling them to develop knowledge and practical skills to reach their full potential which will create a wider range of choices for their future.
As a charity every penny donated goes towards the schools, assisting the children and teachers who we now pay a small salary. No trustees or charity members will at any stage receive money from the charity for any purpose.
We Aim
- To continue to provide a secure and suitable building for the school.
- To continue to provide basic facilities such as electricity, water, toilets and furniture.
- To continue to provide suitable educational materials.
- To continue to raise the standard of education through training and support for the teachers.
- To develop the creativity of the children through the arts.
- To continue to provide financial assistance to the teachers.
We have big plans for the organisation, but everything rests on your help.
We want to help the children learn and raise their awareness of the world.
We want to help the children be proud of themselves by facilitating their education.
We want to give the children in developing countries the same education conditions as the children in industrialised countries.
In other words, we want to grow the seed to create the tree sheltering the next generation.
This is why we have created this charity, and we are confident the impact we have now will grow with time. As the children grow up, they will be better equipped to help the next generation.
In the future, we would like to extend our actions
- Where we currently target Central Somalia, we could be targeting the whole country.
- Where we focus on education to enable development, we could add other key focus areas such as health service or well digging where needed.
This is why we need YOUR help. By helping us, you help shape this vision.
You are the one deciding if this vision can be realised, if the children can recover their pride and learn in the better conditions and grow as a tree sheltering the next generation.
Our Strategic Goals 2009-2011
We want to ensure more people are given the basic human right to acces to education. As such, we have set ambitious strategic goals to achieve between 2009 and 2011 that aim to contribute towards the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on poverty reduction*.
Using education as a vehicle for development, Iftiin Education & Development Association will:
- Work with local partner organisations towards helping over 5,000 adults and children gain access to education and improved wellbeing by 2011. This target will be focused mainly in Somalia; which have a number of different yet equally challenging barriers to development from widespread violance to lack of infastructure.
- Increase the number of projects that specifically target women and girls and their access to education to help empower and reduce the social vulnerability of women and girls in a given society.
- Monitor, support and lobby government and other organisations to increase access to education & development programmes for those living in extreme poverty..
- Expand the number of organisations we work with overseas and identify new organisations in the UK through partnerships and alliances.
In order to achieve this growth, Iftiin Education & Development Association recognises the need to increase the resources required for staff, volunteers and partners to continue their high standards of work. Adjustments to programme management and organisational structure will be necessary over the three year period in order to achieve these ambitious goals.
Iftiin Education & Development Association is committed to supporting programmes that are relevant and sustainable and delivered with integrity and professionalism.
Your ongoing donations help us to maintain this every step of the way.
Through the support of many generous people, and the hard work of numerous young people, Iftiin has raised money to help build schools, and are planning to under take in the future; medical projects, water pumps, IT projects and literacy compaign.
